The rapidly growing population and high livestock density in the catchment area exert pressure on natural resources, leading even to deforestation and overgrazing. Intense rainstorms cause significant erosion and associated sedimentation, which increases operational and maintenance costs and shortens the lifespan of water resource infrastructure. Therefore, it is important to maintain the storage capacity of the reservoir and extend its economic lifespan by taking appropriate measures to reduce the siltation rate. This would be possible if we knew the amount of sediment input in the catchment area.
