Mobility is one of the most important resources that significantly determines independence and autonomy in old age, thereby influencing quality of life and well-being. Limitations in mobility are clear and early signs of pathological changes and accelerated aging processes, as well as diseases in old age, which can have serious consequences for the affected patients, such as loss of abilities, illness, need for care, institutionalization, and death, along with corresponding personnel and financial burdens on the health and social security systems in Germany. Due to functional changes in sensory perception, motor skills, and cognition in old age, there can be losses and reductions in mobility with far-reaching consequences. Therefore, ensuring or maintaining mobility in old age is a crucial key component of successful aging.
