A city dweller falls in love with someone from the countryside at a wrestling festival. Annalisa Hartmann's book deals with the urban-rural divide, and she does so by skillfully interweaving fictional passages, her own thoughts, and real statements by others. The result is a story that, thanks to Hartmann's atmospherically dense descriptions, unfolds a veritable reading pull.
The first version was written in Bernese German. In order to make the text accessible to a wider audience, the author translated the story into standard language. Now both versions meet in the book, which is also emblematic of a linguistic and cultural openness.
