How can I explain the Gospel to people from another culture? We have long suspected it: In addition to our individual personalities, our cultural imprint also determines our identity, our worldview and our ethics - and thus also our understanding of the good news of Jesus Christ. While Christians in the West traditionally tend to emphasise redemption from guilt, people in many other cultures around the world tend to long for honour to avert shame and for power to overcome their fear. The liberating message of Jesus is for all and encompasses much more than we realise. In fact, the Bible sensitively addresses the needs of all three types of culture. It shows us how, by God's grace, we humans can be healed of shame, fear and, not least, our guilt.
