Miss Emily Moore, a former British Secret Service agent, has had an eventful life: having grown up in South Africa, she parachuted behind German lines in France to support the Resistance against the German occupation. She served as Her Majesty's secret agent for many years and is now living out her well-earned retirement in her pretty cottage in Little Benton on Sea on the south coast of England.where she reads the newspaper in detail every day, goes for long walks by the sea, grows roses - and occasionally solves one or, preferably, several murder cases. These cases often have to do with the history of Nazi rule and its crimes. Miss Moore, resilient and equipped with a professionally sharp mind, traces their roots in the past and never ceases to amaze those around her. On her birthday of all days, Emily Moore, a former member of the British secret service, is asked by her former boss to help track down a criminal. A marriage fraudster is up to mischief in East Sussex, and a woman has been murdered - whether by the fraudster is unclear.
