Ideally, all pregnancies reach term and labor begins spontaneously. However, there are times when it is advisable to terminate a pregnancy due to maternal or fetal indications. The process of inducing labor involves preparing (maturing) the unprepared cervix, especially when the termination occurs far from the due date. This process is a crucial factor in the success or failure of labor induction. Misoprostol, a medication originally used as a cytoprotective agent for drug-induced gastric ulcers, has proven to be an effective means for cervical maturation and has been widely used for this purpose. However, the appropriate dosing regimen of the medication for this indication has not been established. This book addresses the comparison of two commonly used dosing regimens of Misoprostol for cervical maturation and labor induction.
