Product details
During his years in Hamburg from 1767 to 1769, Lessing reaches a peak in his creative output. His "Minna von Barnhelm," published in 1767, transforms the landscape of German literature and has since shaped the expectations placed on comedies. The "Hamburg Dramaturgy," which began in May 1767 and was completed in the spring of 1769, establishes a new foundation for literary criticism and influences dramatic theory reflections up to Naturalism and Brecht. The work "How the Ancients Represented Death," from 1769, opens the burgeoning field of antiquarian studies to a provocative religious-critical perspective. All major works and the smaller writings from this period have been edited from the first editions and thoroughly commented on. Three of the most significant and still influential works in the fields of poetry, literary criticism, and antiquarian studies are collected in one volume: "Minna von Barnhelm.".
