This booklet contains a variety of proven tasks for beginner readers. Following exercises on sound-letter correspondence at the beginning, middle, and end of words, there are systematic exercises on syllable segmentation with provided syllable frames. Segmenting words into syllables allows children to grasp word meanings more quickly. Supplementary exercises with rhyming words and word-image associations promote the development of a sight vocabulary. Interesting observation tasks involving license plates and football club logos add variety to the exercises, maintain reading motivation, and encourage reading of more challenging words. The exercises are suitable for different phases of literacy acquisition. With gentle assistance from adults, they can also be carried out by preschool children.
