Despite all the lip service in politics and society, much remains to be done regarding the protection of children, especially in the digital world. This is particularly true for the protection of children's informational self-determination. Although the General Data Protection Regulation introduced provisions that explicitly address the processing of personal data of minors for the first time, a uniform and coherent protection system has not yet emerged from this. The book examines the overall data protection legal framework in terms of its suitability for effective protection of minors. Existing data protection regulations are analyzed to see how they can be interpreted and applied to meet the special protection needs of children. Where this is not possible, the book makes concrete suggestions on how new regulations could be integrated into the existing legal framework to enhance the protection of minors.
