Product details

The military technology of World War II was based on the experiences of World War I. There, the war of movement had come to a standstill due to the high firepower of machine guns and artillery, resulting in trench warfare. With the help of the internal combustion engine, it became possible in World War II to move firepower under armored protection on land again. In the search for the recipe for victory, tank warfare became prominent in Germany. It enabled lightning-fast attacks, followed by pauses for the regeneration of the troops. Wolfgang Fleischer documents in this volume the important weapon technology developments on land during World War II. He covers a range from machine guns, artillery, and tanks to grenade launchers, smoke launchers, landing craft, as well as flamethrowers and flame tanks, culminating in the fundamental role of the mechanization of the army, which made the war of movement possible again.
