Migrationslinguistik

With immigration, the significance of migration linguistics is also growing, as it examines the linguistic aspects of migration in an interdisciplinary manner. This volume offers a compact introduction to the topic. It highlights various forms of migration, particularly labor, educational, and refugee migration, and discusses different language acquisition scenarios as well as the maintenance and loss of multilingualism in the context of migration. Furthermore, it addresses the impact of migration on language systems by explaining processes through which languages influence each other in multilingual societies or among multilingual individuals. The relationship between language and identity, as well as issues of educational equity in the context of migration, are also explored. In this regard, the current challenges facing the German education system are also considered. Finally, the visibility of migrant languages in the host society is brought into focus.
