Microbiome
German, 2016Product details
For a long time, it has been known that the gastrointestinal tract houses trillions of microorganisms, referred to as the human gastrointestinal microbiome. However, recent research findings have explosively highlighted the extent to which the human microbiome is involved in the physiological developments and functions of the organism and how significantly it influences the occurrence of diseases that are by no means limited to the gastrointestinal tract. Although a comprehensive understanding of the complex interrelationships is still pending, important observations regarding the composition and function of the gastrointestinal microbiome in healthy individuals, as well as in various diseases, have already been made. This book aims to present the current state of knowledge about the gastrointestinal microbiome for the first time, to inform physicians and other interested parties.
