Product details

Mew-Band 21 contains texts from the period of May 1883 to December 1889. After Marx's death on March 14, 1883, Engels was not only entrusted with his estate but also with their shared political and journalistic legacy. However, what this legacy encompassed was anything but clear – the phase of the development of Marxism had begun. The most important writings that were to establish this new worldview (Engels) are found in this volume, namely The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State and Ludwig Feuerbach and the End of Classical German Philosophy. Subsequent generations drew significantly from these two texts in their understanding of materialism and the bourgeois state. For this edition, the annotations have been fundamentally revised according to the current state of research, as well as the index of persons and other parts of the apparatus. The volume is accompanied by a new and detailed preface that places Engels' texts in their historical context.
