Der Auftrag meiner Mutter
German, 2011Product details
Erna de Vries was 19 years old when her mother was deported in 1943. To not leave her mother alone, she followed her on the transport "to the East" – to Auschwitz. Erna's mother was murdered there. Erna herself was taken to Ravensbrück and survived. With this account, Erna de Vries fulfills the promise she made to her mother: to bear witness. She also describes how she was able to regain her footing after liberation, in Lathen, a small town in Emsland. There, she and her husband were the only survivors of the Holocaust.
