Following the project of modernity, which aims to include the entire population in political, legal, economic, educational, and cultural processes, comes the project of digitization. This involves the transformation of analog processes into discrete, countable, binary-coded, statistically analyzable, and machine-computable processes. Some hope that the project of digitization will create the conditions necessary for the continuation of the project of modernity by providing the tools that enable everyone to access all areas of society. Others fear that it will perversely end the project of modernity by making participation in society no longer a matter of individual choice, but rather a question of collective data collection. The considerations presented in this book cannot resolve this question. Instead, they present the variations.
