In high-performance sports, at the highest level of long-term and systematic development and promotion, an individual's psyche becomes the decisive factor in determining victory or defeat. Factors such as self-perception, attitudes towards competition, fear of failure, handling disappointments, coping with critical situations that arise during competition, and loss of concentration at crucial moments play a significant role. Loss of self-esteem and motivational issues negatively impact the training process. Those who want to influence their willingness to perform in training and game performance must possess the necessary psychological tools to achieve their personal goals and those of their team. This book presents selected sports psychology training methods specifically focused on the sport of ice hockey, which support coaches and players in optimizing performance. Practical examples help to meaningfully integrate mental training techniques into ice hockey training and apply them in competition to enhance action control. Even the seemingly unconscious actions on the ice can thus be made conscious and trainable.
