Human rights are not only violated on a daily basis, but are increasingly being called into question in principle - especially by dictatorial regimes and populist movements. Are we currently witnessing the end of the era of human rights? Against a spreading fatalism, Heiner Bielefeldt and Daniel Bogner advocate for democratic and human rights awareness. They demonstrate that human rights can foster solidarity across political and cultural boundaries. Therefore, they pose a threat to authoritarian regimes. However, the future prospects of human rights also depend on the willingness to pursue political reforms. An important task is to overcome the false equation of human rights with "Western values" and to take the universality of human rights seriously.
