Menschenhandel in Bulgarien

Trafficking in human beings is a serious violation of human rights worldwide and is associated with the abuse of human dignity. As a form of organised crime, it undermines the main principles of the legal order of a democratic society. Trafficking in human beings is considered modern slavery and is a serious crime linked to the exploitation of human beings. For those behind it, however, it is a profitable business - with an annual profit of 33 billion euros. For the victims, human trafficking is always associated with violence, control, coercion and false promises. Although Bulgaria is one of the smaller countries in Europe, it is a leader in the field of human trafficking. Human trafficking as a cross-border phenomenon affects Bulgaria, which is mainly a source country of trafficking.
