Menschen aus der Tatra

The album "People from the Tatra" tells the story of personalities who have shaped the history of Zakopane and contributed to its legend. The key to their portrayal is the visit of Pope John Paul II to Podhale in 1997 and the paths he traveled. It is no coincidence that Tytus Byczkowski depicts most of the figures in the book as portraits or caricatures. His drawings connect to the artistic bohemian tradition that Zakopane has long been proud of. He often gives his figures a voice, allowing them to recount many extraordinary events, such as rescue operations in the High Tatras and caves, the helicopter tragedy of Sokół, encounters with bears around the Morskie Oko mountain hut, the tearing down of a massive swastika from the Mnich Wall during the occupation, the daring jump of a courier from a cable car who faced arrest, and a miracle that occurred through the intercession of Saint Urszula Ledóchowska. The author of the photos introduces us to the unique atmosphere of the Tatra with beautiful images.
