Meiser:Das Markusevangelium

In his commentary, Martin Meiser draws on insights from structuralist and post-structuralist narrative analysis as well as performance criticism. The history of the text is sometimes addressed as a history of interpretation. Perceptions of later criticism of Christianity and insights from performance criticism converge in suggesting that dissemination within one's own group is the norm, which is considered the original horizon of reception for the Gospel of Mark. This group is to be equipped for both missionary work and engagement with Jews who do not believe in Jesus. The authoritative reference framework is the Holy Scriptures of Israel, although the author no longer feels bound by dietary and purity laws and does not develop any positive hope for the political greatness of Israel.
