I experienced a harsh youth marked by the war years. As part of a seven-member mountain farming family, I had to start working early. This fostered a connection to nature and a love for agriculture that lasted a lifetime. My future was abruptly shattered at the age of 25: a head-on collision changed my life in an instant, and a permanent disability forced me to retrain. I became a carpenter. And as my father's strength waned, I was drawn back to the beehive, just like my ancestors. I have kept bees for over 40 years now, although until my retirement, it was more of a side activity. When Markus Imhoof planned a film about bees, he sent an employee to Switzerland to find a beekeeper in the mountainous region who could fit the script. This casting agent visited beekeepers in various cantons, took photos, and recorded conversations.
