Mein lesbisches Auge 23: Einsamkeit

We all likely know the feeling of loneliness. Loneliness does not only affect the elderly. It carries a stigma, as no one likes to admit feeling lonely. It can occur in phases across all age groups, even in childhood or during the naturally melancholic teenage years. According to a recent survey of people aged 18 and older, one in four feels lonely. What does loneliness feel like? How does it begin, and how does it end? How does the feeling of loneliness differ from being alone? The topic of "enjoying being alone" is also addressed. Loneliness in romantic relationships and in groups is explored. The "opposite" is also discussed: "too much" closeness, being too tight-knit, or too much sociability. Because the opposite of loneliness can also become a problem: constantly being on top of each other, whether in a (too close) romantic relationship or in group or family settings, at work, and in the community. This can happen when we do not feel comfortable there or do not feel like a part of it. A collection of stories, poems, and snapshots from today, along with a look into the history of loneliness, including some almost glorifying notions.
