Mein Katalonien

In late 1936, Orwell arrived in Barcelona as a newspaper reporter to cover the Civil War. He joined the P.O.U.M. militia, the Workers' Party of Marxist Unification, and fought at the front in Aragon throughout the winter. When he soon witnessed the Communists using methods of the fascist secret police to eliminate troops they deemed undesirable, he became one of the fiercest opponents of Soviet totalitarianism.
