Jakob Arjouni, born in 1964 in Frankfurt am Main, initially studied, worked for several years in southern France after graduating from high school, and then lived in Berlin. He published novels, plays, short stories, and radio plays. Together with his family, the author primarily lived in southern France. In January 2013, Jakob Arjouni succumbed to cancer.

Four members of the 'Ecological Front' are accused of murdering the chairman of 'Rheinmainfarben-Werke'. While the four admit to having carried out a bombing on the night in question, they deny any connection to the murder. According to eyewitness accounts, five people were involved in the attack. Private detective Kemal Kayankaya is tasked with finding the missing fifth man.
