Product details
This book is the second volume of a two-volume work on the structures, motivations and developments of the manga and anime scene.
For fans, manga and anime are the sun around which they orbit like planets with their activities. The fans are both the subject of the scene and the reason for the emergence of this scene. However, they are also of central importance for publishers, mangaka (authors and illustrators of manga) and television broadcasters.
While the Community (fan community) forms the core of the manga and anime scene, these companies and groups of people represent the peripheral elements of the scene.
They are responsible for enabling fans to consume their ¿favourites¿ in the first place.
What are these elements, how do they function, what framework conditions surround them and what constraints are they subject to?
Can development trends be identified and can certain processes be recognised?
These are the questions explored in this book. But the fan also expresses his views and comments on various questions, resulting in a dialogue between fan and peripheral element.
The author draws on data from a digital questionnaire, an internet forum conducted over nine months, a large number of interviews - by telephone, email and face-to-face - as well as a large amount of other sources of information.
The result is a journey through the history of the development of the manga and anime scene, taking a look at the past, present and possible future of this scene.
