Sorbian/Wendish life in the district of Dahme-Spreewald (Lower Sorbian: Wokrejs Dubja-Błota) is rich in traditions and customs. The Sorbs/Wends have preserved their own language, culture and identity up to the present day. With the cultivation of numerous traditions and customs, they enrich and shape the region, which is located in the middle of the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve, in many ways. The charming appearance includes the Sorbian/Wendish traditional costumes, which are worn in many places on special occasions. This volume provides an overview of Sorbian/Wendish history, the development of customs and traditional costumes, and the people who feel connected to their homeland, the culture and the language of the Sorbs/Wends in the district of Dahme-Spreewald. It documents the work of many committed people, not only Sorbs/Wends, and also shows ways in which tradition and language can be preserved.
