The Bastigkeits book "Medications in Emergency Medicine" has been the established standard work for training and continuing education in the use of pharmaceuticals in emergency services for 25 years. Following an introduction to general pharmacology, there is a list of commonly used medications in emergency services organized by application areas. The descriptions include composition, indications, interactions, and more. The so-called "Pharma-Infos" at the back of the book summarize each medication in brief. Pictograms representing the respective indications allow for even quicker access to information. The 9th edition has been thoroughly revised and updated with new medications and study results. All important recommendations from professional organizations such as AHA, ERC, and ESC have been integrated and noted with the respective medications or indications. Additionally, current research findings are discussed, and established "off-label uses" are declared. Detailed chapters focus on preclinical key topics such as ACS, coagulation, resuscitation, and volume replacement. The foundational chapter on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics has been completely restructured and articulated in an even more understandable way. Among the most significant didactic changes are case studies related to the respective emergency scenarios.
