Medieval Nordic law
Product details
Since the first edition, research has expanded and deepened the understanding of medieval Nordic legal sources. Accordingly, the new edition has been completely revised and significantly expanded. New sections include discussions on runestones as legal sources, the conquests of the Danes and Swedes in the Baltic region, particularly in Estonia, and their administration there. Strauch has also taken into account the influence of the Khazars in Russia on the local rule of the Varangians. Significant changes have occurred in Jyske Lov, in the older and younger Västgötalag, and in the Swedish Landslag. The role of canon law and the ecclesiastical land registers of Norway, the concept of "Folklande" in Uppland, and the crimen laesae maiestatis in Sweden are now treated in greater depth. The accompanying maps have also been revised.
