Medien des Gatekeeping

Gatekeepers decide on inclusions and exclusions and regulate the circulation of information, objects, and subjects. The contributors to this volume illuminate media constellations of access control, including in urban environments, transportation, and technical networks. They examine the human actors, spatial-material architectures, as well as programs and algorithms that are effective within the respective regimes of distinction. In doing so, they place the processuality, materiality, and historicity of gatekeeping as a connected media technology and ubiquitous cultural technique at the center of a distinctly cultural studies reflection.
