Product details

Maximilian Herrfurth (1863-1933) is rightly regarded as the most important photographer in the history of the city of Merseburg. His passion for capturing significant buildings, streets, residential and commercial houses, as well as important events and everyday scenes, set him apart from his contemporaries. Maximilian Herrfurth's father, Franz Herrfurth, also practiced this profession. Joachim Riebel paints a sensitive portrait of this photography family rooted in Merseburg in his introduction. The illustrated book celebrating the 150th birthday of Max Herrfurth showcases Merseburg, the city by the river, with its grand buildings and citizens' houses, bringing to life the historical context of important events as well as everyday scenes from old Merseburg. Merseburg at the transition to modernity: a city and photography history captured in the works of three generations of a renowned photography family - a document of a lost urban landscape.
