Max Welcker

The composer Max Welcker, originally from Augsburg, wrote folk-style late Romantic music for various choir sizes. In addition to a wide range of church compositions, he created secular works for different occasions and numerous humorous pieces in German as well as in Bavarian and Swabian dialects. The newly presented Max Welcker catalog lists a total of 610 works by the Swabian composer Max Welcker in detail. His works are still available through the music publishers Anton Böhm & Sohn Augsburg and Ruh Musik AG. For the research of the catalog, various sources were used, including two handwritten autograph catalogs by Max Welcker. In these, he noted almost all edition numbers, the title of the work, usually the instrumentation, and the date of publication. The research was supplemented by comparing the edition numbers with those from the publisher Anton Böhm & Sohn Augsburg. The tabular overviews include publishing details, opus numbers, work and instrumentation information, publication dates, and data on the availability of the works. The focus is on practical usability for choir directors, singers, musicologists, and music-loving amateurs.
