BKA Chief Inspector Philipp Gerber investigates against the backdrop of one of the most significant events in post-war German history: the construction of the Berlin Wall. August 1961. At Frankfurt Airport, BKA Chief Inspector Philipp Gerber foils an assassination attempt on General Hiram C. Anderson, his former boss at the US military intelligence. Officially, Anderson has returned to Germany to travel the country with his daughter June, but he also has other political plans. He wants to warn Philipp about a potential double agent and traitor. Meanwhile, Philipp's girlfriend Eva Herden finds herself caught in the crossfire: Thousands of refugees still cross the open border between the East Berlin sector and the West sectors every day, but during a meeting, the journalist receives information that a wall is to be built.
