Matter of opinion

Architecture has a special significance in the canton of Graubünden: with the development of transport since the 19th century, extraordinary building tasks have been mastered time and again - for example in bridge building. Hotel architecture experienced great prosperity as a result of tourism and the growth of the vacation and health resorts changed the landscape. Building is therefore one of the outstanding cultural achievements in the mountain canton. Equally important, however, is the communication of what has been built through photography, which follows both aesthetic and ideological considerations. This richly illustrated reader offers a history of architectural photography in Graubünden and shows in several essays the respective specific view of architects, engineers and photographers. In addition, questions about the use of architectural photography for postcards, advertising and political opinion are addressed.
