This work deals with the development of a macroscopic continuum model to investigate the influence of the flexoelectric effect on microstructural domain switching processes in ferroelectric functional ceramics. Of particular interest is whether direct flexoelectricity can initiate a polarization process in piezoceramics and whether indirect flexoelectricity can enhance the actuation properties of an IDE wafer.
