A Man of Change: Few have shaped the art of their time like the Frenchman Claude Monet, whose work is in constant evolution. In Paris, the young painter finds like-minded individuals who disdain the art establishment and develops a new visual language with them. These unheard-of dissidents inspire Monet. It is only through the innovative and extremely risk-taking gallerist Paul Durand-Ruel that Monet's success truly becomes possible. In 1883, Monet moves to the countryside and begins a new phase of creation, where the subject matter becomes increasingly insignificant to him. The boldness and radicality of Monet's later work influence a new generation of abstract painters, especially in the USA.
