Digitalization affects all essential areas of life today, both directly and subtly: ethics, security, work and private life, social coexistence, energy supply, politics and opinion formation, media and culture, education, and science. Digitalization has created many productivity advantages and conveniences that probably few would want to miss. However, the internet and the World Wide Web are not a utopian cyber republic, but rather a part and reflection of our living environment. Trolls, flash mobs, fake news, election manipulation, hate mail, the dark web, and the fear of changing work environments are perceived as real threats. Where is the digital transformation leading us, or where are we taking it? How are personal and societal life areas changing? How do we deal with the accompanying challenges? This book engages in a discourse on relevant aspects with prominent actors and thought leaders.
