Spitzbergen

Spitsbergen is an Arctic archipelago of primal force, archaic in its stony and icy reduction, in its dimensions and its absolute silence, which leaves one speechless. Its majesty, which has existed for what feels like an eternity, almost without interaction with our civilization – that is the magic of the Arctic.

The photographs by Paolo Verzone, who traveled to Spitsbergen five times for this photo book, not only reveal the mysterious power of the "Cold Coast," but also its people, both permanent residents and visiting researchers. Verzone captures life where none seems possible in winter, adapted to this inhospitable nature, in images full of strange poetry.
