My Fehmarn

Summer island children - that was him and his brother Stipe, since they first spent their holidays in Fehmarn, together with their mother and the resurfaced father. While the cracks in their parents' marriage reopen, other experiences gain permanence and depth: excursions to the Niobe monument, life in the countryside by the sea, night rides on the tractor, first summer loves, and formative readings. Alongside images of blooming rapeseed and poppies, of dunes and cliffs that accompany the narrator throughout his life and later reappear in the Fehmarn paintings of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
