Product details
Kings, princes, knights, and citizens - and all of you, the curious ones who wish to discover the diversity of the countries in this world - take this book and let it be read to you. You will find strange and wonderful things within. Thus begins one of the great works of travel literature: Il Milione - The Wonders of the World. And indeed, it is wonderful things that the great traveler Marco Polo reports: He visits the Crusader cities of Acre and Jerusalem, travels over Baghdad to the Persian Gulf, and finally arrives at the court of Kublai Khan. On his behalf, he travels through China and India until he finally returns to Venice, richly endowed, through adventurous paths.
The incredible experiences of the most famous traveler of all time are vividly retold in this lavishly illustrated book. The atmospherically dense illustrations, inspired by Oriental and Asian art, by artist Claudia Lieb, along with a wealth of factual information about the medieval world between Venice and Beijing, take us on this wonderful reading journey! Together with Anke Dörrzapf, Claudia Lieb led the children's magazine P.M. Willi wills wissen. Claudia Lieb was responsible for the layout and illustrations as Art Director, while Anke Dörrzapf, as Editorial Director, handled the text and article selection. This collaboration fostered a friendship and a close partnership for further joint journalistic projects. Claudia Lieb chose Marco Polo as the subject of her thesis. The Gerstenberg Verlag became aware of these illustrations at an exhibition, leading to the idea of a joint non-fiction house book.
