Mapping the Moving Image. Media, Agents, and Sites in the Czech Context (A Cartography of Moving Images. Media, Agents, and Sites in the Czech Context) offers a critical survey of the use of moving images in Czech art from the 1970s to the present. Essential to this is an analysis of the forums and levels on which the autonomy of this practice was negotiated. The articles written especially for this volume are by authors with a background in art history and film studies, but also by archivists and curators who contribute their specific perspectives. The volume provides a coherent overview and remedies the at best fragmentary historical picture we have of this practice to date. The book is published in collaboration with the National Film Archive in Prague.Sylva Poláková is a film historian and curator. She specialises in experimental film and moving images in art from an interdisciplinary perspective. Martin Mazanec is a curator and art mediator and works primarily with artistic moving images in the contexts of gallery and cinema.
