Manifesto of Artistic Research

Since its beginnings in the 1990s, artistic research has established itself as a new format in educational and institutional policy as well as in aesthetic and art theory. It has now permeated almost all artistic fields: from installation art to experimental formats, contemporary music, literature, and dance and performance art. However, since its inception, it has been labeled under terms like art and science or science art and art science, which both connect them in one breath, competing with academic research, without a clear definition of its own research concept. The manifesto attempts to provide clarification and to defend the concept, potentials, and radicality of research-based art against those who are overly cautious about university formats.
