The Viennese musicologist Manfred Angerer (1953-2010) has to be considered one of the most stimulating scholars of his generation. This volume contains a representative selection of his texts, including numerous essays, miscellanies and unpublished lectures that have appeared in obscure places. Manfred Angerer was one of the most distinguished musicologists of his generation. This volume provides an insight into his literary legacy and brings together major and minor works, especially on the history of music from the 18th to the 20th century. At the centre of the problematic outlines unfolded against a broad educational horizon is music itself in all its manifestations (including areas neglected by the guild such as operetta or Jewish cantorial music) - music in its respective compositional nature and its development, as an artistic activity and as an aesthetic experience.
