Product details

László Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946) was engaged in non-objective painting, influenced by Kazimir Malevich. In his Berlin studio, he maintained contact with Kurt Schwitters, Theo van Doesburg, and Laszlo El Lissitzky. His work as a graphic designer was heavily influenced by the De Stijl movement, Constructivism, and Merz art. Creatively and consultatively, he combined the aesthetic demands of the Bauhaus with the conditions and mechanisms of product advertising. Jena glass became the epitome of modern commodity culture. Moholy-Nagy created non-objective Constructivist sculptures, paintings, photographs, and graphics. In the 1920s, he was one of the most important artists of photograms; he developed the theoretical and experimental foundation for the establishment of this then-new art form. He coined the term "photoplastics" as an expression for artistic photographic works that arise from the combination and interlinking of various graphic and other design elements with photographic works. His work with light and its refraction, fixation, and reflection equally shaped his interest in the new technical media of photography and film. In 1925, his programmatic considerations were published in the Bauhaus Books series under the title 'Painting-Photography-Film,' illustrated with 100 black-and-white images. This is a reprint of the original edition from 1925.
