Product details
Eduard Mörike's sombre tale, published in 1832 and divided in two by the phantasmagorical stage play "The Last King of Orplid", tells the story of an unhappy love affair: the talented painter Theobald Nolten has found the woman of his life in the morbidly melancholy Agnes. But through the intrigues of a friend and their own clumsiness, the two become increasingly estranged. They are joined by the mysterious gypsy Elisabeth, who Theobald tries to win over. Overwhelmed by a longing for death and at the mercy of a seemingly overpowering fate, the protagonists are inexorably drifting towards a catastrophic end ...
