Product details

Malaga, the blind tightrope walker, is the admired star of the Franconi Circus. She crosses the thin tightrope under the circus dome with complete confidence. However, one day she stumbles and falls into the depths. Although she is only slightly injured, she suddenly sees colors, and the memory of a terrible accident returns. She can, she must see again and conquer the world anew.

Benjamin Lacombe tells this seemingly simple story primarily through images, initially in black and white, then on translucent pages through which more and more colors gradually shine through, until a new wonderfully colorful world emerges, making this book a celebration of sight. In his afterword, Benjamin Lacombe shares how important light and colors are to him as an illustrator and painter, and recounts how he himself experienced temporary blindness due to extreme stress. The rediscovery of the visible world became his theme more than ever after that.
