This research study remains of interest for the development economics of the Pakistani sugarcane industry, aiming to limit the area, promote the cultivation of improved varieties with rational use of inputs, and enhance crop management. According to the Economic Survey FY2020, sugarcane production in 2019 decreased by 0.4 to 66.880 million tons, compared to 67.174 million tons in 2018. The production may reflect the cultivation pattern, i.e., 1,040 thousand hectares compared to 1,102 thousand hectares, a decline of 5.6 percent, with improved yields compared to 2018-19. The sugarcane industry in Pakistan is the second-largest agro-based industry after the textile industry. Pakistan is a significant sugarcane producing country, ranking fifth in the global sugarcane cultivation area and fifteenth in sugar production, with its contribution to agricultural value addition and GDP at 2.9 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively.
