From a young age, Tacenda has had the gift of casting a powerful spell that protects her and her family from the monsters in the woods. However, this power is also her curse, as Tacenda is doomed to live a life in eternal darkness: as soon as the sun rises, she loses her sight until it becomes dark again. One night, the protective spell fails, and Tacenda's family is killed by the monsters. Tacenda believes that the new lord, who replaced the old ruler some time ago, is responsible for this. Allegedly, he is in league with demons. She breaks into his manor to seek revenge. But she quickly realizes that the lord is anything but of this world and that much darker forces are responsible for her family's death.
