The delicate sparkle of champagne...
The woman behind the famous champagne brand Veuve Clicquot
Reims, 1805: The young widow Barbe-Nicole Clicquot takes over the champagne production and wine trade of her late husband against the resistance of her family – and proves to be a talented winemaker. However, it is the time of the Napoleonic Wars, and business is not going well. Supported by her employee Louis Bohne and the German accountant Christian Kessler, Barbe-Nicole manages to keep her company afloat, develops a new production method, and gives champagne its seductive sparkle. Captivated by her spirit, both men develop feelings for her – but only as a widow can Barbe-Nicole continue to run her business under her own name….
