Author Information
Henry David Thoreau was born in 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts, and attended Concord Academy as well as Harvard. After a brief stint as a teacher, he worked as a surveyor and craftsman, sometimes employed by Ralph Waldo Emerson. From 1845 to 1847, Thoreau lived in a house he built himself on Emerson's property near Walden Pond. During this time, he completed "A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers" and wrote the first draft of "Walden," the book that is widely regarded as his masterpiece. He died in 1862 from tuberculosis, and much of his writing was published posthumously.

Blurb
Henry David Thoreau is considered one of the leading figures of early American literature, and "Walden" is undoubtedly his most influential book. It recounts the author's experiences living in a small house in the woods around Walden.
