Author Information

William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The exact date of birth is unknown, but it is celebrated on April 23, which also happens to be St. George's Day and the day Shakespeare died in 1616.

At the age of eighteen, he married Anne Hathaway. They had three children. Around 1585, William joined an acting troupe that was touring Stratford from London and spent much of his life in the capital afterward. By 1595, he had written five of his history plays, six comedies, and his first tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. In total, he wrote thirty-seven plays and many poems, achieving immense fame during his lifetime as a harbinger of his immortality.

Blurb

Dark and violent, Macbeth is also the most theatrically spectacular of Shakespeare's tragedies. A golden future as the ruler of Scotland was promised to him by three witches.
